Revolutionary Timeline

A timeline is a graphical representation of events that have taken place over time. These events are listed in chronological order. That means they are listed in the order in which they happened.

Timelines usually contain a list of dates and a list of events. Siginificant events are places on the timeline with gaps of time between events. You can use a timeline to display a lot of information in a compact way.

Timelines are very useful when studying history. Timelines are a great way to organize events in time order and to make connections between events. Historians use timelines to track changes in history - like the growth of a colony. For this assignment, you will be the historian.

Assignment

Your assignment is to create a timeline showing some of the key events leading up to the Revolutionary War and some of key events of the war. Click here for an explanation and example of a timeline. You may complete your timeline by drawing it on paper, or you may use the online timeline generator.

Your timeline should start with the Boston Massacre in 1770 and run all the way through the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783. Be sure to add a few details about each event on your timeline.

If you choose to create your timeline using the online timeline generator, be sure to add a title and include your name in the "By:" field. The unit of measure should be set to Date. Once you have entered in this information, click "Next Entry" at the top of the form. Enter the year, a short title for the event, and a brief description of the event, then click "Next Entry" again. Repeat this process until you have added all of your events. Then click "Finished" at the top of the form. Then you must print your timeline - choose a Vertical Timeline.

If you choose to draw your own timeline, you may draw pictures on your timeline (like the ship on the Explorers Timeline) and use color, if you wish. Make sure your work is neat and easy to read! You may use your notebook, textbook, or the internet to help you.
